Tudor Pelagos FXD Watches

Created in 2021 through a collaboration between Tudor and the French Navy, notably the elite Commando Hubert combat diver unit, the Pelagos FXD takes its name from its FiXeD strap bars, which are machined from the same block of titanium as the case itself. How to Choose Your Pelagos FXD Watch

The first criterion is the bezel, as it determines the watch's intended purpose. The countdown bezel version (featuring a reverse 60–0 scale) was designed for tactical underwater navigation using successive headings. This functionality is particularly valuable if you understand and actively use this method of underwater navigation. The version equipped with a traditional unidirectional diving bezel, built to conventional diving standards, is easier to read for everyday use and more suitable for standard dive timing.

The second criterion is the case. The standard Pelagos FXD features a 42 mm titanium case, while the Pelagos FXD Chrono uses a lightweight 43 mm carbon composite case and adds a chronograph function with a 45-minute counter. Your choice depends on whether you prefer a straightforward professional tool watch or a more technical chronograph.

The third criterion, unique to the FXD collection, is the strap system. Because the strap bars are fixed and integrated into the case, the watch can only be fitted with a one-piece strap. Both a fabric strap and a rubber strap are supplied with the watch. Unlike other Tudor Pelagos models, there is no option for an articulated titanium or stainless steel bracelet. This is an important consideration if you are looking for the versatility of a traditional metal-bracelet sports watch.

What does "FXD" mean, and why are the strap bars fixed?

FXD stands for "Fixed." Instead of using removable spring bars, the strap bars are machined directly into the same titanium block as the case, a design inherited from the operational requirements of military combat swimmers. The edges of the bars are rounded on the side facing the wrist to minimise wear on diving suits, while the integrated construction allows the strap to pass underneath the case for maximum security.

How does the countdown bezel work?

Unlike a traditional diving bezel, the countdown bezel rotates in both directions and is set in reverse to count down the remaining time. A diver plans an underwater route using successive timed headings, and the bezel allows the remaining time before the next change of direction to be monitored, even while wearing diving gloves.

Can I fit a metal bracelet to the Pelagos FXD?

No. Because the strap bars are fixed and integrated into the case, the Pelagos FXD is compatible only with one-piece fabric or rubber straps. If you prefer the option of a traditional articulated metal bracelet, the other Pelagos models (39 mm, 42 mm, and Ultra) are better suited.

Is the Pelagos FXD certified as an ISO 6425 diving watch?

The countdown bezel version does not comply with the ISO 6425:2018 diving watch standard because its bezel is designed primarily for underwater navigation rather than exclusively for measuring dive time. By contrast, the version equipped with a conventional unidirectional diving bezel meets the standard expectations for a professional diving watch.

What is the water resistance of the Pelagos FXD?

The Pelagos FXD is water-resistant to 200 metres, more than sufficient for recreational and most professional diving applications. Its design, however, prioritises operational reliability and durability over achieving extreme depth ratings.
