How to choose your Tudor GMT?

Four criteria guide your choice: movement, case format, bezel and strap. Tudor powers its GMTs with the in-house MT5652-U calibre (70 h power reserve, COSC-certified), a rarity at this price point. Format-wise, the Black Bay GMT 41 mm remains the civilian benchmark; the Pelagos FXD GMT 42 mm titanium meets a military spec (French Navy). The two-tone ceramic bezel red-blue "Pepsi", black-burgundy "Coke" or blue-black distinguishes the variants. For the strap, the Black Bay's vintage rivet steel coexists with Tudor's in-house fabric and FKM rubber. Prices range from €4,200 to €5,800 — a clear step below a Rolex GMT-Master II.

Which Tudor GMT for which profile?

  • First versatile GMT → Black Bay GMT Pepsi on rivet steel
  • Discreet 39 mm look → Black Bay Pro fixed bezel
  • Outdoor / aviation use → Pelagos FXD GMT titanium
  • Refined vintage feel → Black Bay GMT Coke on in-house fabric
  • Heritage gift → Black Bay GMT S&G steel-gold
  • Frequent multi-timezone traveller → FXD GMT, light and legible

The Auberi insight: in our boutiques in Nice, the Pepsi mostly goes to regular Riviera–Americas travellers. For private pilots and yachtsmen, the titanium Pelagos FXD GMT wins on its 88 g lightness and legibility.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between a Black Bay GMT and a Rolex GMT-Master II?

The Tudor MT5652 and Rolex 3285 share the "true GMT" architecture (jumping local hour hand). The Tudor offers 70 h reserve, the Rolex 70 h too. Differences: case finishing, Oyster vs rivet bracelet, and above all price — around €4,350 vs €11,200 retail.

Is the Pelagos FXD GMT a real military watch?

Yes. This dive watch was developed with the French Navy for combat divers and naval aviation pilots. Fixed lugs (FXD = fixed bars), grade 2 titanium case, aluminium 24 h engraved bezel. It's worn in active service, not just sold with a military pitch.

Is the MT5652 calibre COSC-certified?

Yes. All MT5652 and MT5652-U movements are COSC chronometer-certified, with an official precision of -2/+4 seconds per day. Tudor announces tighter internal tolerances after casing, around -2/+4 s/day measured on the wrist.

Can you dive with a Black Bay GMT?

Water-resistant to 200 m, the Black Bay GMT handles leisure diving without issue. The rotating bezel however is not a unidirectional dive bezel but 24 h, so unsuited to timing immersions. For serious diving, a Black Bay 58 or Pelagos is the better pick.

What's the lead time for a Tudor GMT at Auberi?

The Black Bay GMT Pepsi and Coke are generally available or deliverable within a few weeks. The Pelagos FXD GMT and S&G version often require a longer wait. We recommend trying one on at our Nice or Monaco boutique to validate size and strap before ordering.
