Superocean Heritage
How to Choose Your Breitling Superocean Heritage
The Superocean Heritage is a vintage-inspired dive watch available since 2025 in four case sizes: 36, 40, 42, and 44 mm. This broad range makes choosing the right model easier than it may seem, provided you focus on the right criteria.
Wrist and case size should be your first consideration. The new 40 mm model measures 11.73 mm thick with a lug-to-lug distance of 48.2 mm. The 42 mm version is 12.03 mm thick with a 49.55 mm lug-to-lug measurement, while the 44 mm model is 12.17 mm thick with a 52.44 mm lug-to-lug span. In practical terms, the 40 mm suits wrists between 15 and 17 cm (5.9–6.7 inches), the 42 mm works best from 17 cm upward, and the 44 mm is ideal for wrists measuring 18 cm (7.1 inches) or more. The 36 mm model is designed specifically for slimmer wrists.
Your intended use will help determine the most suitable model. If you need to measure elapsed time for diving, sailing, or sports activities, the Chronograph 42 is the only model in the range equipped with this complication. For everyday wear combining land and sea activities, the three-hand B31 models in 40, 42, or 44 mm are more than sufficient.
Movement and power reserve also deserve attention. The three-hand automatic models in 40, 42, and 44 mm are powered by the COSC-certified in-house B31 caliber, offering approximately 78 hours of power reserve. The 42 mm Chronograph houses the B01 caliber, featuring a column wheel and vertical clutch, also COSC-certified, with a 70-hour power reserve. The 36 mm version uses the more compact B10 caliber.
Bracelet choice significantly impacts everyday comfort. Every model in the new collection is available with either a stainless steel Milanese mesh bracelet or a rubber strap, both of which integrate more seamlessly with the case than those of the previous generation. The steel mesh bracelet offers a dressier appearance, while the rubber strap is more practical for water activities and summer wear.
Water resistance is consistent across the entire collection. All six models are rated to 200 meters of water resistance, making them suitable for recreational diving, snorkeling, and surfing, though not for deep technical diving.

FAQ — Breitling Superocean Heritage
What is the difference between the Superocean Heritage and the standard Superocean?
Both collections share the same water resistance and diving heritage, but they serve different purposes. The Superocean Heritage adopts a retro design directly inspired by Breitling's dive watches of the 1950s, featuring a bezel without crown guards, distinctive arrow and sword-shaped hands, and an overall vintage aesthetic. It is a timeless reinterpretation of the original model rather than a simple reissue. The standard Superocean, by contrast, is designed with technical performance in mind and features a more contemporary appearance.
Is the 2025 collection significantly different from previous generations?
Yes. The Superocean Heritage had not undergone a major redesign since 2017. The 2025 collection introduces several meaningful updates, including the first-ever 40 mm case size, slimmer profiles across the entire range, and the introduction of the in-house B31 caliber visible through a sapphire caseback. The lugs have also been redesigned to improve bracelet integration with the case—an enhancement particularly appreciated in everyday wear.
Can you actually dive with a Superocean Heritage?
Yes, for recreational diving. Every model in the new collection, including the chronograph, is certified water-resistant to 200 meters. The unidirectional ceramic bezel allows divers to track immersion times safely. For technical diving beyond 60 meters, however, specialized models such as the Superocean 2000 remain more appropriate.
What warranty comes with the Superocean Heritage?
Breitling offers a 5-year international warranty on all of its watches, along with an additional 3-year extension for in-house manufacture movements. As a result, both the Superocean Heritage B31 Automatic and the B01 Chronograph benefit from this extended coverage, since the B31 and B01 are exclusively developed and manufactured by Breitling.
Can I try on a Superocean Heritage in a boutique before purchasing?
Yes. Auberi, an authorized Breitling retailer on the French Riviera, carries models from the Superocean Heritage collection in its boutiques. Trying the watches on in person is highly recommended when comparing the 40, 42, and 44 mm sizes, as differences in lug-to-lug dimensions and thickness are often more noticeable on the wrist than they appear on a specification sheet.
