Breitling Automatic Watches
How to Choose Your Automatic Breitling Watch
Choosing an automatic Breitling watch starts with defining how you intend to wear it on a daily basis. Breitling offers automatic movements across all of its collections—including the Navitimer watch, Superocean, Chronomat, Avenger, and Premier—and each range is designed to suit different lifestyles and needs.
Your wrist size should be the first consideration. A smaller wrist (less than 17 cm / 6.7 inches in circumference) is generally better suited to a case measuring between 38 and 42 mm, such as the Navitimer 38 or the Premier 40. Larger wrists can comfortably accommodate the 44 to 46 mm cases found on the Superocean Heritage and Avenger collections.
Your intended use will then help determine the right balance between functionality and style. For professional wear or a versatile dress-sport watch, the Breitling Premier or Chronomat are excellent choices. For diving or water sports, the Superocean—with its 200 m or 300 m water resistance—is the natural option. Aviation enthusiasts and frequent travelers will appreciate the Navitimer, whose iconic slide rule remains a practical and distinctive feature.
The choice of strap also affects both comfort and versatility. An integrated metal bracelet, such as the Chronomat's signature Rouleaux bracelet, is ideal for active everyday wear. Leather and rubber straps offer greater lightness and breathability in warm weather, making them particularly comfortable in sunny climates such as the French Riviera.
Finally, consider the movement's power reserve. Breitling's B01 and B20 manufacture calibres provide approximately 70 hours and 38 hours of power reserve, respectively. If you don't wear your watch every day, investing in a watch winder can help keep it running and ready to wear.

FAQ – Automatic Breitling Watches
Does an automatic Breitling require regular servicing?
Yes. A Breitling automatic movement should generally be serviced every four to five years. A complete service includes cleaning the movement, replacing the water-resistance seals, and checking the watch's accuracy. At Auberi, this service can be arranged through Breitling's authorized after-sales service network.
What is the difference between the B01 and B20 calibres?
The B01 is Breitling's in-house manufacture movement, entirely developed and assembled by the brand. It offers a 70-hour power reserve and powers premium Navitimer and Chronomat models. The B20 is based on the Tudor MT5612 movement and delivers a 38-hour power reserve. It is notably used in selected Superocean models. Both movements are COSC-certified chronometers, ensuring exceptional precision and reliability.
Can you wear an automatic Breitling for diving?
Yes, provided you choose the appropriate model. The Superocean collection is Breitling's dedicated dive watch range, offering guaranteed water resistance up to 200 m (on certain Superocean 42 and 44 models) or 300 m depending on the reference. The Navitimer and Premier collections are not designed for prolonged underwater use. Although their typical water resistance of 30 to 100 m protects against splashes and surface swimming, they are not intended for scuba diving.
Is the automatic winding system sufficient if I don't wear my watch every day?
If you wear your watch for fewer than 8 to 10 hours per day, the movement may eventually stop running. In that case, you have two options: manually wind the crown, which is possible on all Breitling automatic movements; or use a watch winder to keep the movement running.
A watch winder is particularly useful if you rotate between several watches in your collection.
Are automatic Breitling watches purchased from Auberi covered by the official warranty?
Yes. Auberi boutiques are authorized Breitling retailers on the French Riviera. Every new Breitling watch purchased from Auberi is supplied with Breitling's official two-year international warranty, activated on the date of purchase. The warranty covers manufacturing defects and mechanical malfunctions but does not cover damage resulting from impacts, accidents, or improper use.
