How to choose your ZENITH automatic watch?

All ZENITH watches sold at Auberi are automatics, wound by the natural motion of the wrist through an oscillating rotor. "Automatic" here excludes quartz movements and manual winding. The ZENITH automatic range covers two main families powered by the El Primero calibre: automatic chronographs and simple three-hand automatics.

  • Automatic chronograph ★: the Chronomaster collection, El Primero 3600 calibre, from €9,500 to €45,100, for the chronograph enthusiast.
  • 3-hand automatic: the Defy Skyline, El Primero 3620 calibre, from €9,500 to €16,500, built for daily sport wear.
  • 3-hand automatic: the Pilot Automatic, calibre 4610, around €10,700, dedicated to aviation and clean style.

The former combine chronometric performance and horological heritage; the latter prioritise legibility and complication-free daily wear. Prices start at €9,500.

Which ZENITH automatic for which profile?

  • High-frequency chronograph → Chronomaster Sport
  • 3-hand, modern sport design → Defy Skyline Automatic
  • 3-hand, clean aviation style → Pilot Automatic

The Auberi insight: on the Côte d'Azur, ZENITH clients who want an automatic without a chronograph almost always choose the Defy Skyline, its titanium geometric design is light and unmistakeably individual. For those who want the El Primero in a pure sport format, the Chronomaster Sport remains the absolute reference; browse our full range of Zenith chronograph watches to compare calibres.

Frequently asked questions

How long can a ZENITH automatic go unworn?

ZENITH movements offer 50 to 60 hours of power reserve depending on calibre. An unworn watch therefore stops after 2 to 2.5 days. For irregular use, an automatic watch winder keeps the watch running and preserves movement lubrication.

Does a 5 Hz El Primero automatic consume more energy?

Slightly yes. High frequency (5 Hz / 36,000 vph) consumes more energy than a standard 4 Hz (28,800 vph), which explains the slightly shorter power reserve compared to many comparable calibres. ZENITH has offset this with a larger mainspring and optimised barrel in modern versions.

Do I need to wind a ZENITH automatic after purchase?

If the watch is stopped at delivery, wind it by hand via the crown (20 to 30 turns) before wearing. Never force it. After that, daily wear is sufficient to maintain the power reserve, the rotor recharges the movement automatically with every movement.

Does ZENITH offer automatics under €10,000?

ZENITH's new automatic entry point is around €9,500 for the Defy Skyline or the Chronomaster Revival. There is no new ZENITH automatic below this threshold. In the pre-owned market, some models can be found from €7,000 to €8,000.

How accurate is a ZENITH automatic?

The El Primero calibre, COSC-certified (Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute), offers accuracy of −4 / +6 seconds per day. In practice, modern ZENITH movements often perform within an even tighter range of ±2 to 3 seconds per day with regular daily wear.
