How to choose your Tudor Chronograph?

Four criteria guide your choice: lineage, movement, diameter and bezel. Tudor splits its chrono range into three lines: Black Bay Chrono (heir to the 70s Oysterdate 7159, panda spirit), Black Bay 41 Chrono S&G (steel-gold) and the Black Bay Chrono Pink. Movement-wise, the MT5813 (modified Breitling B01 architecture, 70 h reserve, COSC) powers the whole range, a column-wheel chronograph with vertical clutch. The 41 mm diameter is the standard, with a 14.9 mm thickness. The fixed steel tachymetric bezel or 200 m dive bezel signal racing or versatile use. Expect €5,200 to €6,700 depending on finish and strap.

Which Tudor chronograph for which profile?

  • Classic racing-panda look → Black Bay Chrono white dial
  • More discreet evening style → Reverse Panda black dial
  • Gift / signature piece → Chrono S&G steel-gold
  • Fashion-forward piece → Chrono Pink on leather or fabric
  • 70s collector → Heritage Chrono Blue pre-owned
  • Versatile road-and-city sport → Black Bay Chrono rivet steel bracelet

The Auberi insight: the white panda version stays our best-selling Tudor chrono, both for visual balance and daytime legibility. The Reverse Panda appeals to clients who already own a diver and seek a complementary chrono.

Frequently asked questions

Is the MT5813 truly derived from the Breitling B01?

Yes. Tudor and Breitling sealed a deal in 2017: Tudor supplies its MT5612 to Breitling for the Superocean Heritage, Breitling supplies its B01 to Tudor, renamed MT5813 with Tudor finishing (specific 22 ct gold rotor, in-house COSC tuning). It's a column-wheel chronograph with vertical clutch — high-end architecture.

Why is the Black Bay Chrono 14.9 mm thick?

Thickness comes from the MT5813 calibre (column-wheel chrono) combined with a 200 m water-resistant case and tachymetric bezel. It's a thick watch on the wrist — try it on in-store to validate comfort, especially under 17 cm wrist circumference.

Is the bezel fixed tachymetric or rotating?

On the Black Bay Chrono, the bezel is fixed steel, engraved with a tachymetric scale to measure average speed over 1 km. It does not rotate. If you want a rotating dive bezel, look at the Black Bay 58 or Pelagos instead.

What's the difference with an Omega Speedmaster?

The Moonwatch Speedmaster uses a manual 3861 calibre, aluminium or ceramic tachymetric bezel, Apollo heritage. The Black Bay Chrono is automatic, 200 m water-resistant, more versatile sport-and-city. Similar prices (~€5,400 Tudor chrono / ~€7,700 Hesalite Speedmaster). An identity choice more than a spec one.
