How to choose your Tudor Chronograph?

The choice of a Tudor Chronograph is based on several practical criteria, starting with the case diameter. The Black Bay Chrono collection is available in 41 mm and 39 mm: the former size is suitable for wrists measuring 17 cm or more, while the slimmer 39 mm version (13.1 mm thick versus 14.2 mm) is better suited to slimmer wrists or to those who prefer a discreet profile that slips easily under a shirt cuff.

The intended use then helps determine the choice of bracelet. A steel watch bracelet with three or five links and a “T-fit” quick-adjust clasp is suitable for everyday and sporting use, including in wet environments, thanks to its 200-metre water resistance. A leather or fabric strap is better suited to regular wear in professional or formal settings, although it offers less resistance to water and abrasion. The S&G (steel and gold) versions provide a middle ground for versatile use, combining sporty and dressier styles.

The dial also deserves careful consideration: Panda versions (light-coloured dial with dark sub-dials) and Reverse Panda versions (dark dial with light sub-dials) offer better readability of the chronograph counters than plain dials, which is worth considering if you plan to use the chronograph function frequently.

Is the MT5813 truly derived from the Breitling B01?

Yes. Tudor and Breitling sealed a deal in 2017: Tudor supplies its MT5612 to Breitling for the Superocean Heritage, Breitling supplies its B01 to Tudor, renamed MT5813 with Tudor finishing (specific 22 ct gold rotor, in-house COSC tuning). It's a column-wheel chronograph with vertical clutch — high-end architecture.

Why is the Black Bay Chrono 14.9 mm thick?

Thickness comes from the MT5813 calibre (column-wheel chrono) combined with a 200 m water-resistant case and tachymetric bezel. It's a thick watch on the wrist — try it on in-store to validate comfort, especially under 17 cm wrist circumference.

Is the bezel fixed tachymetric or rotating?

On the Black Bay Chrono, the bezel is fixed steel, engraved with a tachymetric scale to measure average speed over 1 km. It does not rotate. If you want a rotating dive bezel, look at the Black Bay 58 or Pelagos instead.

What's the difference with an Omega Speedmaster?

The Moonwatch Speedmaster uses a manual 3861 calibre, aluminium or ceramic tachymetric bezel, Apollo heritage. The Black Bay Chrono is automatic, 200 m water-resistant, more versatile sport-and-city. Similar prices (~€5,400 Tudor chrono / ~€7,700 Hesalite Speedmaster). An identity choice more than a spec one.

Auberi runs an in-house watchmaking workshop in Nice that handles Tudor servicing (gasket change, cleaning, lubrication, COSC check). Allow 6 to 8 weeks for a full MT5813 chronograph service. For warranty pieces, we manage the direct return to Tudor.
