Matching engineering to design is what achieved the slim profile of this case. The movement is manually wound, which allows it to be thinner. The classic large seconds hand disappears in favor of a small seconds positioned in a register at 9 o’clock, this echoing at 3 o’clock a discreet power reserve indicator which balances the dial. The edges of the dial are rounded to emphasize the thinness of the case, which is curved so as to sit closer to the wrist. Sometimes minimalism really is a plus. The caliber 9S63 is the first Grand Seiko movement with a small seconds hand. It is placed at 9 o’clock, opposite the power reserve indicator. The 9S63 caliber offers a power reserve of 72 hours and an accuracy of +5 to -3 seconds per day. The movement is assembled and adjusted by hand by the master craftsmen of the new Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi.
