Men's sport watches

More than a watch, an everyday tool

A sports watch is not just a watch, it's an indispensable tool that accompanies you in all your sporting activities. Whether worn daily or only occasionally, these watches offer a host of specific functions.

There are many types of sports watches: diving watches, chronographs, connected watches and chic sports watches. A wide choice that can get you lost.

In this article, we present the different types of sports watches and our selection of pieces from the leading brands.

THE CHRONOGRAPH

CHRONOGRAPHS: MEASURING TIME

The chronograph was originally an instrument for measuring the time between two events. It is often confused with the chronometer, which has a label based on the ISO 3159 standard

A chronograph watch has at least one independent hand to start and stop the measurement of a time interval.

A chronograph watch may also have a chronometer label, in which case it is referred to as a chronometer-chronograph.

THE HISTORY OF THE CHRONOGRAPH

The first chronograph was the independent seconds watch created by Jean Moise Pouzait in 1776. It wasn't until 1816 that Louis Moinet was able to reset this measurement to zero. The modern chronograph was born. From 1860 onwards, the manufacture of chronographs began to grow, particularly in Switzerland.

In 1913, Longines introduced the single-pusher chronograph, and in 1934, Breitling presented the two-pusher chronograph.

The first automatic chronographs appeared in 1969.

WHY OPT FOR A CHRONOGRAPH

The most appreciated features of chronographs are their style and their sporting utility.

They are suitable for many sports, such as athletics and running. For non-professional sportsmen and women, a chronograph will enable them to time their performances. Most chronograph enthusiasts are attached to its technical design, firstly by Breitling, then by Tag Heuer and Omega.

FUNCTIONING

The top pusher starts the stopwatch and the bottom pusher stops it. The lower pusher resets the chronograph to zero. Most chronographs feature a large, stationary seconds hand at 12 o'clock, activated by pressing the top pusher.

AUBERI SELECTION

The most emblematic models we recommend are Tag Heuer's Carrera, Omega's Speedmaster or Moonwatch, or Breitling's Navitimer.

DIVING WATCHES

DIVING WATCHES FOR MEN

More than just a watch, it's an essential accessory for amateur and professional divers alike. These watches are specially designed to withstand the depths and offer great precision. To qualify as a diver's watch, timepieces must meet a number of criteria in order to be certified to ISO 6425 or DIN 8306 standards.

L'HISTOIRE DES MONTRES DE PLONGEE

In 1926, Rolex patented its water-resistance system, and the following year an English swimmer crossed the English Channel wearing a Rolex Oyster

The Omega Marine was the first underwater watch with a square case in two superimposed parts. In 1937, the watch obtained the first water-resistance certificate to 135m. In 1957, new diving models were launched, such as Breitling Superocean and Omega's Seamaster 300.

OPERATION

Diving watches have a number of specific features: maximum depth, resistance and legibility. They can also be fitted with a chronograph. Most diving watches feature a helium valve to guarantee water resistance.

Another key feature of this type of sports watch is the unidirectional rotating bezel. This features graduated minutes and markers every 5 minutes to monitor the duration of immersion in water. To ensure legibility, the hands and indexes are luminescent.

AUBERI SELECTION

The most emblematic diving watches are Omega's Seamaster and Breitling's Superocean.

SPORT-CHIC WATCHES

SPORT-CHIC WATCHES

Sport-Chic watches are watches with sporty features and a more elegant, chic look. This elegance can be expressed by a leather or steel bracelet, yellow or rose gold details, or colored dials. This type of sports watch is very popular with enthusiasts, as it combines practicality and elegance. It's true that some sports watches are very masculine and can lack a refined aesthetic. These models are precisely halfway between a classic timepiece and a sports watch.

They benefit from the advantages of both emblematic models, and can therefore be worn equally in everyday life, during sports sessions or for special occasions.

THE HISTORY OF SPORT-CHIC WATCHES

The rise to prominence of this style of watch in the cinema can be traced back to the iconic James Bond film of 1962. In the first James Bond film, starring Sean Connery, the character wears a Rolex Submariner diving watch with his tuxedo. So it's not just the movies but also Rolex that are responsible for today's sporty-chic watch style.

THE AUBERI SELECTION

Breitling's Carrera and Chronomat are iconic Sport-Chic models. Equally elegant but even more chic, Zenith's Chronomaster Sport is a perfect example of this type of watch. The pink gold version is available with both black and white dials.
