For several decades, we have witnessed the passion that the Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris collection has inspired among fine watchmaking enthusiasts and modern adventurers. This model embodies Swiss craftsmanship, mechanical innovation, and timeless elegance all in one. At Auberi, we are proud to offer this iconic range within our complete Jaeger-LeCoultre watch collection, combining history and horological expertise to serve our most discerning clients.

The Polaris Collection: A Singular Adventure

The Polaris watch first appeared in the early 1960s in the form of the legendary Memovox Polaris, designed as a diving and exploration watch. It was officially launched as a prototype in 1962, then marketed from 1965–1968 in a version equipped with a mechanical alarm—a technical feat that allowed divers to keep track of time underwater. This technical daring places the Polaris alongside other iconic creations of the maison, such as the famous Reverso collection, renowned for its unique reversible case.

The Memovox Polaris E859, produced in very limited numbers (around 1,714 units), quickly became an iconic piece, renowned for its robustness, water resistance up to 200 m, and distinctive seventies design. Over the decades, Jaeger-LeCoultre has reimagined the collection: Tribute series starting in 2008 and 2013, followed by a complete revival in 2018, offering today automatic models, chronographs, worldtimers, and perpetual calendars—all inspired by the original codes but enriched with the latest mechanical innovations. These new models join the wider range of Jaeger-LeCoultre men’s watches.

Technical Details: Craftsmanship on the Wrist

At the heart of the Polaris collection beat Jaeger-LeCoultre’s in-house automatic calibers. The Polaris Automatic is equipped with a caliber 898/1 (or 898E/1), displaying hours, minutes, and seconds, with a 40-hour power reserve and water resistance up to 100 m. This technical expertise can also be found in other prestigious collections such as the Master watches, renowned for their exceptional accuracy.

The Polaris Chronograph, a centerpiece of the sport line, houses the caliber 761, a column-wheel chronograph with vertical clutch, offering a 65-hour power reserve. It features a 42 mm stainless steel case, a sapphire crystal caseback showcasing fine finishing (Côtes de Genève, blued screws, open-worked JL rotor), and two subdials (minutes and seconds) for precise timekeeping. This technical sophistication recalls the excellence of the Master Control models, another reference in horological complications.

The modern Polaris design preserves the vintage spirit of its origins, with dials featuring multiple finishes (sunray, grained, opaline), luminescent indices, and a wide variety of interchangeable straps (steel, alligator leather, rubber). The latest editions include models with complications such as the perpetual calendar and worldtimer—clear demonstrations of the versatility of the Polaris case and of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s ingenuity. For those who prefer a more classic elegance, the maison also offers the refined Master Ultra Thin collection.

How Much Does a Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Cost?

On today’s market, Polaris Automatic models are generally priced between €7,000 and €9,800 depending on year and condition (new or near-new), while Chronographs range from €13,000 to €16,000. Complication editions (Perpetual Calendar, Geographic, Mariner Memovox) can go well above €20,000, reaching nearly €40,000 for rose gold versions or Boutique Exclusive series. These prices position the Polaris in a similar range to the Reverso Classic models, another icon of the manufacture.

The Jaeger-LeCoultre Universe Beyond Polaris

While the Polaris collection embodies the spirit of adventure and performance, Jaeger-LeCoultre offers a complete palette of horological creations. Ladies can discover the elegance of the Rendez-Vous watches, specially designed for feminine wrists, or the delicate Reverso One. Collectors will particularly appreciate the Reverso Tribute editions, which pay homage to the brand’s historic models.

This diversity illustrates Jaeger-LeCoultre’s ability to create watches for every style and occasion. From robust sport models to elegant complications, through to refined feminine creations, each collection tells a unique story while sharing the technical excellence that has made the manufacture world-renowned.
