Breitling Super Avi B04 Chronograph GMT 46 Mosquito Watch

From the first reckless takeoffs to the appearance of commercial flights, the history of Breitling is closely linked to that of aviation. In the 1930s, Breitling’s Huit Aviation department became known for inventing precision clocks for use in cockpits. Two decades later, the brand presented another flight instrument, a new one this time to be worn on the wrist: the Ref. 765 AVI. This pioneering pilot’s watch provided the technical backdrop for today’s Super AVI, a collection inspired by the adventurous spirit of famous early aircraft. The Super AVI Mosquito pays homage to one of these legends. At a time when shortages of aluminum and steel were commonplace, the engineers behind the de Havilland Mosquito exploited a resource that was then particularly abundant: wood. The “wooden marvel” caused a real shock wave when its performance exceeded that of its metal contemporaries to become one of the fastest planes built between 1940 and 1950. Boasting unparalleled maneuverability, the aircraft was capable of carrying out all kinds of missions and fulfilling the role of light bomber, night fighter, transporter and photo reconnaissance aircraft. This Super AVI Mosquito is a true pilot’s watch, designed to withstand the demands of a vintage cockpit. Its large Arabic numerals provide excellent readability on the dial and bezel. Its sturdy case measures 46mm and the oversized crown is placed at 3 o’clock. The knurled bezels ensure optimal grip and the topstitched calfskin straps recall the stitching found on classic flight equipment. Pilots and travelers will be delighted to be able to follow a second time zone using the 24-hour display on the inner bezel and the red-tipped GMT hand. The Super AVI is powered by a COSC-certified Breitling Manufacture Caliber B04 movement, which guarantees a power reserve of approximately 70 hours.
