Because it participated in all six moon landings in human history, the legendary OMEGA Speedmaster is a true space icon that embodies the pioneering spirit of the brand. In this 44.25 mm model, the Speedmaster's history aboard the Apollo 8 mission is celebrated by the blackened movement, whose mainplate and bridges are laser-engraved to represent the lunar surface. The visible face is revealed through the skeletonized dial in black anodized aluminum, while the hidden face is revealed on the case back. Presented on a perforated black rubber strap with a yellow rubber insert, this watch is crafted entirely from black ceramic, with touches of yellow lacquer on the chronograph seconds hand and a laser-engraved tachymeter scale on the white enamel-coated window. The small seconds counter (patent pending) also features a grade 5 titanium hand shaped like a Saturn V rocket. This 3D shape is achieved through laser turning, while the colors result from the application of a white varnish, laser ablation, and laser blackening. A specially decorated version of the OMEGA Co-Axial Master Chronometer caliber 3869 adorns the watch, and the case back is engraved with the inscriptions “APOLLO 8, DEC 1968,” “DARK SIDE OF THE MOON,” “WE’LL SEE YOU ON THE OTHER SIDE,” and “CO-AXIAL MASTER CHRONOMETER.”
